Singapore is blessed with a small land area and no natural resources except labour.  This allowed Singapore to focus her efforts towards nation building and a trade hub, and since her independence on 9 Aug 1965, she has grown to a first world country with first class facilities and a hub of trade and commerce.  Her small land area allowed concentration of resources and high rise buildings, and very efficient means of work.  The multi-cultural community allowed people of all races to feel comfortable, and the status of a border between East and West has also allowed her to grow her expatriates base, and also to include many of them to her nationality.
